Beloved Yeovil Taxi Driver Norel Scortea Passes Away at 54
Yeovil, Somerset – The local community is mourning the loss of Norel Scortea, a well-known and respected night taxi driver, who passed away at the age of 54. Norel, who became a familiar face to many in the town, died earlier this week, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, wisdom, and a deep love for his adopted home.
Norel's journey to Yeovil began in the winter of 2016, a time when Brexit was a source of division across the UK. However, for Norel, it marked the start of a new chapter in his life. Having lived through the collapse of communism in Romania, he sought the freedoms and opportunities offered by the West, eventually making England his home.

Born and raised in Romania, Norel completed his degree in Energetics from Bucharest University in 1996. He pursued a successful career in advertising, including a prestigious secondment in New York with Ogilvy, a leading global advertising agency. Upon returning to Romania, he furthered his education with a master's degree in Environmental Law. Despite his success, Norel was drawn to the unique liberties of England, ultimately settling in Yeovil where he found peace and purpose.
Norel's presence in Yeovil extended far beyond his role as a taxi driver. For many, a ride with Norel was a unique experience, one that left passengers with more than just a safe journey home. Known for his generosity, thoughtful conversation, and precise speech, Norel became a confidant and a friend to countless members of the community. His taxi's bright lights were a welcome sight on many a dark night, symbolizing safety and warmth for those he served.
Norel was also on the cusp of starting a new academic journey, having been accepted to study at the University of Law in Bristol this September. His plans were a testament to his unending pursuit of knowledge and personal growth, qualities that were admired by all who knew him.
As the community comes to terms with his sudden passing, arrangements are being made for Norel's final journey back to Romania, where he will be laid to rest alongside his family. He leaves behind a daughter, Ayana, who remains in the thoughts and prayers of those who knew her father.
In memory of Norel, a collection has been organized by his employer, Radio Cabs. Those wishing to pay their respects or contribute can do so by contacting Radio Cabs at 01935 426666.
Norel Scortea may have found his freedom on English soil, but his spirit will forever be intertwined with the community he loved and served so well. His loss is felt deeply, but his memory will continue to light the way for those who knew him.
