CPS Drops All Charges Against Yeovil Man After Questionable Avon & Somerset Police Arrest
A damning spotlight has been cast on Avon & Somerset Police after Yeovil resident David Fuller had all charges against him dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). Fuller, who was arrested for allegedly carrying weapons during a protest in Yeovil, spent an agonizing month in Cardiff Prison on remand before the truth emerged: he was walking his dogs and had no weapons on him at all.
Arrested for Walking Dogs
The ordeal began when Fuller, a well-known Yeovil local, was detained by Avon & Somerset Police during a protest near the churchyard. Officers claimed he was in possession of knives and other weapons. However, it has since come to light that these so-called “weapons” were, in fact, work tools stored hundreds of yards away in his van.
Fuller was branded a dangerous protester and incarcerated without trial, separated from his family and his beloved dogs.
CPS Drops the Case: No Evidence
After a month behind bars, and then placed on bail the CPS reviewed the evidence—or lack thereof—and concluded there was no case to answer. In a statement, they admitted there was insufficient evidence to prosecute Fuller for any crime.
"This has been an absolute nightmare," Fuller said. "I was simply walking my dogs, and suddenly, I found myself locked up in Cardiff Prison, treated like a criminal. The tools were in my van, not on me, and yet I was branded as someone carrying weapons to a protest. The police should be held accountable for their actions."

Two-Tier Policing Under Fire
This case has reignited accusations of two-tier policing within Avon & Somerset Police. Critics argue that the force disproportionately targets individuals without solid evidence while failing to address more significant crimes in the region.
Local activist groups have called the handling of Fuller’s case an example of systemic injustice. One campaigner said:
"This is a clear-cut case of two-tier policing. A man walking his dogs ends up in prison for a month while others committing real crimes go unchallenged. The police need to reassess their priorities and stop criminalizing innocent people."
Public Outrage Grows
The Yeovil community has rallied around Fuller, with many expressing anger and distrust toward the police. Social media has been flooded with messages of support for Fuller and calls for an independent investigation into Avon & Somerset Police’s actions.
Avon & Somerset Police Response
At the time of writing, Avon & Somerset Police have not issued a public apology or provided an explanation for the wrongful arrest and imprisonment of David Fuller. Their silence only fuels public frustration and raises questions about their accountability.
A Call for Justice
David Fuller’s experience is a sobering reminder of the potential consequences of unchecked police power. As his case concludes with no charges, many are left wondering how such a miscarriage of justice could occur—and whether it will happen again.
The Yeovil community now waits to see if Avon & Somerset Police will take responsibility for their actions or if this will be yet another case swept under the rug.

I came all the way from New Zealand to see Dave an old school mate, they locked him up for the whole month I was there with no communication allowed. Totally disgusting.
I’m so so happy for him but damage is done and it will take him a long time to recover from this if he hither can ,
