Mother Pays Heartfelt Tribute to Teenager Tamzin Hall After M5 Tragedy

The mother of 17-year-old Tamzin Hall, who tragically lost her life on the M5 near Taunton, whilst in the custody of Avon & Somerset Police, has paid a deeply moving tribute to her daughter, describing her as "kind, caring, and loving." Tamzin, who was on the autism spectrum, died after leaving a police vehicle and being struck by a car on the southbound carriageway around 11 p.m. on Monday, November 11.

Tamzin’s mother, Amy Hall, expressed her heartbreak over the loss of her eldest daughter, saying, "Tamzin was my everything, my best friend, and my world. She was taken far too young, and life will never be the same without her."

A Unique and Loving Spirit

Amy shared memories of her daughter’s personality, emphasizing Tamzin’s honesty, intelligence, and thoughtful nature. “Tamzin had a unique perspective on life due to her autism spectrum disorder. She loved her family, enjoyed simple pleasures, and had an infectious sense of humor,” Amy recalled.

Tamzin’s love for helping others and her passion for chocolate were also highlighted, with Amy adding, “She would put her all into any task she was given and always put others before herself.”

The Incident

Tamzin, a student from Henlade, was under arrest and being transported by two officers in an Avon and Somerset Police car when the vehicle stopped on the northbound side of the motorway. Tamzin exited the car, crossed into the southbound lane, and was struck by a passing vehicle.

At this stage it's unknown why the police car stopped and why the police officers allowed her out of the car, when she should have been sat next to an officer, with a central locking system in place, combined with 'Child Locks'.

An inquest has been opened into her death, and the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is investigating the circumstances following a referral by Avon and Somerset Police.

A Devastated Family

Amy shared her resolve to support Tamzin’s siblings, using the strength her daughter inspired in her. “Tamzin taught me so much, and I’ll hold on to those memories forever. I will never get over losing her, but I will honor her by staying strong for her siblings,” she said.

Ongoing Investigation

The IOPC is examining the events leading up to Tamzin’s death, including her arrest, transportation, and subsequent actions. The tragedy has raised questions about police procedures and how such an incident could occur, if correct procedures were followed.

Tamzin’s family, friends, and the wider community remain united in their grief as they await further updates from the ongoing investigations.
