Yeovil MP Adam Dance Urges Calm in Response to National and Local Protests
Yeovil, Somerset – In the wake of widespread protests across the country, Yeovil MP Adam Dance has called for calm and urged residents to reconsider participating in similar demonstrations planned for Yeovil in the coming weeks. His statement comes in response to the recent tragedy in Southport, where three young girls were tragically murdered at a dance class, and ten others were injured in a horrific attack.
Adam Dance expressed his deep sorrow over the incident, stating, "First, I would like to start by saying that I am shocked and saddened by the senseless murder of the three young girls at the dance class in Southport. The attack – which also injured ten others – is a terrible tragedy. My thoughts are with all of their family and friends, and the whole community of Southport."

However, Dance also voiced his concern and anger over the violent scenes that have erupted in the aftermath of the attack. "The appalling scenes that we have seen since the attack have not only saddened me, they have made me angry. To vandalise, threaten, loot, and cause violent disorder against asylum seekers, our Muslim communities, and business owners is completely unacceptable."
The MP condemned the actions of those involved in the riots and called for accountability. "The country has rightly been outraged at the despicable actions of a tiny minority. All those thugs who have rioted and carried out racist attacks must face the full force of the law. Everyone has the right to feel safe in their homes, communities, and places of worship."
Dance praised the efforts of law enforcement and the government's new measures to combat the escalating violence. He also emphasized the importance of holding social media companies accountable for the spread of misinformation and incitement to violence on their platforms.
In a show of solidarity, Dance referenced his colleague, Liberal Democrat Women and Equalities Spokesperson Christine Jardine MP, who has urged the Government Equalities Office to address the surge in Islamophobic violence since the Southport attack and to appoint an Independent Advisor on Islamophobia.
"People from all backgrounds and walks of life have come together to condemn these riots and clean up the damage. It is they who truly represent Britain, not the rioters and those who have incited them," Dance stated, reaffirming the Liberal Democrats' commitment to protecting communities.
Turning his attention to the local situation in Yeovil, Dance reassured residents that the local police are aware of the planned protests and are prepared to act if necessary. "The police are monitoring the situation closely and will be in attendance as necessary to safeguard our community. I urge all those considering attending these so-called protests to reconsider and think carefully about the consequences not only for themselves but for their friends, families, and community."
As Yeovil faces the prospect of unrest, Adam Dance’s message is clear: the path forward is one of peace, unity, and respect for all members of the community.
