Yeovil Dad Advised to "Brick Up" as Storm Blows In: Family Fear Ears Could Take Flight
Yeovil's most beloved character, Tommy Lauclan, has become the talk of the town (and possibly the skies) after his family issued a tongue-in-cheek public warning for him to stay indoors during the approaching storm. The reason? Tommy’s rather prominent ears.
His loving daughter, jokingly suggested he "place bricks in his pockets" to avoid being carried off by the ferocious winds forecasted to hit the area. “We’re genuinely worried,” she quipped. “Dad’s ears are like mini-sails, and with this wind, I wouldn’t put it past him to take off like a budget Mary Poppins!”
A Yeovil Icon with "Aerodynamic Features"
Tommy, a well-known figure in Yeovil for his quick wit and even quicker cup of tea in the local café, took the jibes in stride. “It’s not the first time they’ve said my ears are big,” he laughed. “But this is the first time I’ve been told I might end up in Belgium because of them!”
Despite the playful warnings, Tommy says he has no intention of altering his daily routine. “I’m not letting a bit of wind stop me from popping to the shop for my paper,” he declared. “Though I might wear earmuffs—not to keep warm, but to stop the drag.”
Community Joins In the Fun
Yeovil residents were quick to join in the hilarity. Tommy's friend, Dave, chimed in: “I reckon if we tied a string to him, we could use him as a kite. Save a fortune on carnival decorations!”
A Local pub, even offered a free pint to Tommy if he managed to stay grounded through the storm. “We’ll reserve a barstool for him,” said the landlord. “Just in case he blows through the doors unplanned!”
Family Love in Full Swing
Behind the humour, a family member insists it’s all in good fun and born out of love. “Dad’s the heart of this family and the town,” she said. “We wouldn’t want him getting caught in a gust and leaving a Tommy-shaped hole in the garden fence!”
For now, Tommy remains grounded, but with winds set to reach up to 80mph, Yeovil residents might want to keep an eye on the skies. Just in case.
