Yeovil Fireman To Cycle To Every Somerset Fire Station

Yeovil Fireman To Cycle To Every Somerset Fire Station

Red Watch Yeovil Embark on 270-Mile Charity Cycle for Little Princess Trust and The Firefighters Charity

Red Watch Yeovil is gearing up for an extraordinary charity event, undertaking a grueling 270-mile cycle ride on June 20th and 21st. The team will visit every fire station in Somerset, plus one in each neighboring county, all in the span of two days.

A Relay Challenge

The challenge will be completed as a relay involving eight members of Red Watch. While a 270-mile ride over two days would be a formidable task for seasoned club cyclists, the team is composed mostly of leisure cyclists who typically do not cover such distances even over a year. Their determination and spirit are evident as they prepare to push their limits for a noble cause.

Supporting Two Worthy Charities

This year, the team is raising funds for two charities close to their hearts: The Firefighters Charity and the Little Princess Trust. The Firefighters Charity provides essential support to both serving and retired fire service personnel and their families, a cause that resonates deeply with the team.

A Personal Cause

In addition, they are supporting the Little Princess Trust, inspired by their colleague Rosie and her sister Sanna, who was recently diagnosed with Peritoneal Epithelioid Mesothelioma, a rare form of cancer. In a remarkable act of courage and generosity, Sanna donated her own hair to the Little Princess Trust to be made into a wig before starting chemotherapy, raising over £4,000 for the charity. Rosie will also be participating in the cycle ride, showing her support for her sister.

Raising Awareness and Funds

Red Watch Yeovil is not only aiming to raise funds but also to increase awareness about these two fantastic charities. Their commitment to making a difference is evident in their rigorous training and the challenges they are willing to face.

Team’s Statement

"We are undertaking this challenge to support two causes that mean a lot to us," a spokesperson for Red Watch Yeovil said. "The Firefighters Charity continuously supports our community, and we want to give back. Additionally, supporting the Little Princess Trust is a way for us to stand by Rosie and Sanna during this difficult time. We hope to raise awareness and funds for both charities through our efforts."

Call for Support

As the team prepares for this monumental challenge, they are calling on the community for support and encouragement. The ride promises to be a true test of endurance and camaraderie, showcasing the strength and unity of Red Watch Yeovil.
