Great Western Railway Suspends Services Due to Fallen Tree on Tracks
Great Western Railway has suspended services and cancelled trains running between Weymouth and Dorchester West after a fallen tree obstructed the tracks between Dorchester West and Maiden Newton.
The disruption began early this morning, with the 9.30am and 11.29am trains from Weymouth to Dorchester West already cancelled. Passengers are being advised that the next available service will depart at 1.28pm, following clear-up efforts and safety inspections along the affected section of the line.
The incident comes on the heels of a weekend of cancellations caused by Storm Darragh, which has already battered the region with heavy rain and strong winds. Passengers travelling along the South West Rail Network have been urged to check for the latest updates, as additional disruptions could follow depending on the ongoing storm conditions.

A Great Western Railway spokesperson confirmed that engineers are working to remove the fallen tree, but warned that delays may continue throughout the day. "We understand the frustration this causes our passengers, and we’re doing everything we can to restore services as quickly as possible,” the spokesperson said.
Commuters are advised to seek alternative travel routes or prepare for extended delays if they are planning to travel between Weymouth, Dorchester West, and Maiden Newton today. More updates are expected once the area has been cleared and services resume normal operations.
