Yeovil'sTommy Lauchlan Survives High Winds To Relief Of Locals

Tommy Lauchlan Survives Storm With Bricks in Pockets and a Prayer to Stay Grounded

Yeovil resident Tommy Lauchlan, affectionately known around town for his, let’s say, aerodynamically gifted ears, has become the talk of the town after his heroic survival during last night’s storm. Following stern warnings from his loving children, as reported yesterday, Tommy took some rather unusual precautions to ensure he didn’t go airborne.

As the storm raged across Somerset, Tommy’s family issued a heartfelt plea: “Dad, for heaven’s sake, stay indoors or at least weigh yourself down!” His daughter even handed him a handful of bricks with a cheeky grin, telling him to “stick these in your pockets, just in case.”

But Tommy, being the local legend he is, wasn’t about to let a bit of blustery weather keep him cooped up. Determined to prove his mettle—and gravity’s hold on him—he ventured outside, bricks in pockets, scarf wrapped tightly around his head to “reduce drag,” and a prayer on his lips.

Mock ups soon appeared on social media of the flying scotsman Although some were concerned about his lily white legs!

A Close Call on Market Street

Witnesses reported seeing Tommy leaning at a 45-degree angle against the wind as he strolled down Market Street. One passerby claimed, “I saw him wobble a bit near the fishmonger’s, but he managed to steady himself by grabbing a lamppost. Those bricks definitely did their job!”

Another local joked, “If he’d opened his coat, we’d have seen him fly straight to Glastonbury! Honestly, I’ve never seen a man fight the weather and win like that.”

Family Reacts to Tommy’s Adventure

When asked about his daring outing, Tommy shrugged it off, saying, “What’s a bit of wind? You’ve got to show it who’s boss. Plus, I promised my neighbour I’d get milk.”

His children, however, were less impressed. “He’s impossible to keep inside!” his daughter laughed. “We even suggested tying him to the shed, but he wasn’t having it. At least the bricks worked!”

A New Town Hero

Tommy’s escapade has earned him a new nickname in Yeovil: “The Flying Lauchlan.” The local pub has even dedicated a special cocktail to him—The Grounded Tommy, a mix of whisky, ginger beer, and just a pinch of salt (to simulate the stormy conditions).

When asked if he’d brave another storm, Tommy replied with a grin, “Only if someone else carries the bricks next time. These pockets aren’t as strong as they used to be!”

For now, Yeovil residents can breathe a sigh of relief, knowing that even the wildest winds are no match for Tommy Lauchlan and his trusty pocket bricks.
