Yeovil Town Stages Thrilling Comeback to Beat AFC Fylde 4-3
Yeovil Town pulled off a remarkable comeback, overcoming a two-goal deficit to defeat AFC Fylde 4-3 in a thrilling match at Mill Farm.
AFC Fylde got off to a flying start with Nick Haughton’s powerful strike in the third minute, and he doubled the lead 11 minutes before halftime. Yeovil, however, was not done. Sam Pearson sparked the revival, scoring midway through the second half, followed swiftly by Aaron Jarvis, who leveled the score at 2-2 just three minutes later. Substitute Sonny Blu Lo-Everton gave the visitors the lead in the 78th minute, only for Tyler Roberts to equalize in the 84th. But Yeovil had the final say, with Dominic Bernard, on his debut, scoring the winner just three minutes from time.
Manager Mark Cooper acknowledged his team’s defensive injury crisis and explained that they had no choice but to play a high-risk, attacking game. “We were depleted defensively, so we had to make it an open game to give ourselves the best chance of winning,” Cooper told BBC Somerset. Despite being down 2-0 at the break, Cooper felt his team had created enough chances in the first half to score several goals.

Yeovil was forced to field a weakened side, with key defenders Jake Wannell (suspension) and Morgan Williams (concussion) absent, along with forward Harvey Greenslade (shoulder injury). Cooper praised his players for their resilience and determination, especially Aaron Jarvis, who was instrumental in the victory. “If he plays like that, he’s one of the best number nines in the league. He battered their centre-halves, and a lot of our play came from him.”
The match ended on a dramatic note when Yeovil’s medical team rushed to assist a supporter, who was the grandfather of substitute Corey Koerner, after he suffered a heart attack at the final whistle. The quick actions of medical staff Tony Boreham and Joe Stacey helped stabilize the fan, who was later taken to the hospital and reported to be responsive. Cooper described their actions as the "best part of the day" and praised their heroic efforts.
The manager also expressed sympathy for Koerner, who was understandably distressed by the situation. “Corey’s in bits right now, but the good news is his grandfather is in good hands, and we’ll make sure Corey is well looked after.”
Yeovil’s remarkable comeback not only secured three points but also showcased the team’s fighting spirit, with players, staff, and supporters all playing a role in an unforgettable afternoon.
